While most celebrities consider any press to be good press, the tables tend to turn when information that goes public is likely to land them time in jail. Whether it is something that will haunt you until the end of your days, such as Michael Jackson and his alleged crimes against children, or something a bit smaller in scale, anything that lands you a day in court, or possibly jail time, will remain a public record for years to come.

With this in mind, most celebrities tend to stick to the embarrassing - not condemning - press such as Usher's recent release of a sex tape or Mike "The Situation" getting booed off stage at a Comedy Central Roast. Miley Cyrus, ever the advocate for diverting from the path more traveled by, recently broke these cardinal rules of stardom and appeared extremely intoxicated in front of paparazzi. Normally this would be par for the course for a young celebrity - if it weren't for the fact that Miley is only 18 years old. The legal drinking age in California is still three years beyond her grasp, which could mean serious trouble for the young starlet.

While no onlookers performed a "citizen's arrest" on Miley, allowing her to escape scott-free from this illegal activity, the jig is up and the eyes of the law will now be bearing down on her. While most plead for sympathy for the young singer in light of her parent's recent divorce after 17 years of marriage, former fans who thought she was setting a good example for their youth are outraged and demand a rude awakening.

Whether Miley will follow in the footsteps of such predecessors as Britney Spears, and fall farther and farther down the rabbit hole before coming to her senses, remains to be seen. In the mean time, it would appear that it is in the singer's best interest to lay low and avoid the cameras, for once. Public records cannot be altered once revealed to the world, and this young lady needs all the positive press she can get.
